Report

------------------UPDATE-------------------

26 March 2025

* Further to our earlier report concerning the collision between container ship SOLONG (IMO: 9322554) and chemical/products tanker STENA IMMACULATE (IMO: 9693018), we can now report that SOLONG has been stabilised by professional Salvors operating under LOF terms.

* It is reported that Salvors are preparing for the vessel to be towed to Aberdeen as a port of refuge.

* Based upon information received, much of the deck cargo is reported to be a total loss, but the majority of the under-deck cargo may be sound.

* Given that Salvors are operating under a LOF salvage contract, Salvage Security will now be required to be provided by a party acceptable to the Salvors or the Council of Lloyd’s on behalf of cargo interests and we may be able to assist in that regard. Security provided by WKW is acceptable to the Council of Lloyd’s and widely preferred by professional Salvors.

* We have cargo surveyors on standby who will be able to undertake cargo inspections, as required.

* We already act for a significant portion of the cargo onboard and we may therefore be able to offer certain economies of scale in respect of third-party costs which may need to be incurred to protect Underwriters' interests in this case.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any other cargo on board this vessel so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.

------------------ORIGINAL-----------------

* We have received reports that container ship SOLONG (IMO: 9322554) collided with chemical/products tanker STENA IMMACULATE (IMO: 9693018) in the North Sea off the Humber Estuary, UK on 10 March 2025.

* STENA IMMACULATE is a chemical/products tanker with a gross tonnage of 29,854 tonnes and a carrying capacity of up to 46,573 litres of product. It is reported to be on a laden voyage from Agioi Theodoroi, Greece, to Immingham, UK, and was reportedly at anchor at the time of the collision.

* It is reported that a cargo tank, laden with Jet-A1 fuel, was ruptured on board STENA IMMACULATE and a fire was ignited, possibly engulfing both vessels, as a consequence of the collision and firefighting tugs have been dispatched to the scene to assist in extinguishing the fire(s).

* The crews of both vessels are reported to have abandoned ship but it is not currently clear whether there have been any significant casualties as a result of the fire.

* It is possible that General Average, Salvage and Recovery issues may arise as a result of this incident.

* We therefore recommend that you contact us if you are concerned with any cargo on board these vessels so that we can immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
